How shared collections work

Features

One collection for the whole family, shown to whoever you choose

Keep a collection together with other people, give each of them a role, and decide whether anybody outside BrickDb may see it.

A collection is a shelf you can share. Everything you own is filed into one, and a new collection starts private, with you as its only owner. You invite somebody by e-mail address, choose their role and the language of the invitation, and they get a link that is valid for 14 days. Owners manage everything, editors keep the contents up to date, readers see which sets the collection holds and what condition they are in, and the Insurance role also sees what they are worth. Notes, prices paid, photos and storage places stay with the owners and editors. When you add something, you choose which collection it goes into, and anybody who no longer wants to be in a collection can leave it.

Who sees what in a shared collection?

Every member has a role. Owners add and remove copies, invite and remove members, rename the collection and decide who may see it. Editors add, change and remove copies and see everything about them. Readers see which sets the collection holds and what condition they are in, and nothing else. The Insurance role sees the same and what the sets are worth, and cannot change anything. Notes, prices paid, photos and storage places are never shown to a reader or to the Insurance role.

Can I show my collection to people without an account?

Yes, if you want to. A collection stays Private until you change it to Anybody with the link, or to Anybody, including search engines – and BrickDb asks first and explains what that means. The public page shows the sets and their condition and nothing else: no photos, notes, prices, values or storage places. Look at it yourself before you send the link; it is exactly what others will see. Making the collection private again stops the page answering straight away.

Who it is for

For families and couples who own one collection together, for collectors who want to show their shelf to friends, and for anyone whose insurer needs to see what a collection is worth.

What you can do

  • Four roles: owner, editor, reader and insurance.
  • Invite by e-mail address; the invitation is valid for 14 days.
  • Private, shared by link or public – your choice for each collection.

How to get started

  1. Open Shared collections in the Your collection menu and start a collection.
  2. Invite somebody by e-mail address and choose their role.
  3. Choose who may see it: only its members, anybody with the link, or anybody.
