How the blog, reviews and guides work

Features

Read about LEGO®, and look up what a word means

The blog, reviews of sets we built ourselves, step-by-step guides, a glossary and answers to common questions, all in the Learn menu.

The Learn menu has two columns: Read, with the blog, the reviews and the guides, and Reference, with the glossary, the FAQ, the events and the LEGOLAND® parks. On the blog Thimo writes about events, his own builds and building BrickDb, beside automatic posts: the new LEGO sets of each month, deals posts labelled as advertising, and posts on LEGO's own press releases. Each country has its own blog in its own languages. When a post names a set number the catalogue knows, it becomes a link to that set's page. Reviews are of sets we built ourselves, guides walk one task from start to finish, the glossary explains a term in a sentence or two, and the FAQ gives short answers you filter with a word.

Who writes the reviews and the blog?

Every review is written by the person who runs BrickDb, about a set he owns and built himself, and nobody is paid to write one. Each has a rating, roughly how long the build took, a verdict and a link to the set. The blog's hand-written posts are Thimo's. The monthly post of new sets, the deals posts and the posts on LEGO's press releases are written automatically, and a deals post is labelled as advertising. A hand-written post is translated into the languages of its country's blog.

What are the guides, the glossary and the FAQ for?

A guide walks one task from start to finish, such as valuing a collection for insurance or connecting an AI assistant, and says up front how long it takes and what you will have at the end. The glossary explains the hobby's own words, the catalogue's and the ones BrickDb uses for condition and prices, in a sentence or two each. The FAQ gives short answers, which you filter with a word from your question. All of it is free to read, without an account.

Under Reviews in the Learn menu. Every review is of a set we built ourselves, with a rating, the building time and a verdict.

Is there a glossary of LEGO collecting terms?

Yes. BrickDb's glossary explains the hobby's own words, the catalogue's terms and the ones BrickDb uses for condition and prices, in a sentence or two each.
